Abstract: This study examined the moderating effect of mindfulness on the relationship between rumination and regret. The participants were 193 Thai university students, of which 189 were included in the analysis. Participants were instructed to complete rumination, mindfulness, and regret scales, where the regret scale asked participants to read a regret inducing scenario beforehand. Results were partially supportive of our hypotheses. There was a significantly positive correlation between rumination and regret, as well as the negative correlation between rumination and mindfulness. In contrast with our expectation, the correlation between mindfulness and regret was not significant as we hypothesized. The interaction effect of mindfulness on the relationship between rumination and regret was also not significant. This study is the first to examine regret in relation to rumination and mindfulness in the Thai sample. We suggest the regret scale be further tested in Thai population to determine the appropriate factors involved in Thai‘s sense of regret, and to further validate the regret scale.
