| Abstract: | สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษากลวิธีการแปลอุปมาจากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษใน นวนิยายของ ชาติ กอบจิตติ เรื่อง พันธุ์หมาบ้า (Mad Dogs & Co) จากสำนวนการแปลของ มาร์เซล บารัง (Marcel Barang) โดยผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาทฤษฎีและแนวคิดทางการแปลต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้อง ทฤษฎีเชิงภาษาศาสตร์ ลักษณะของอุปมา และวิธีการแปลอุปมา เพื่อนำมาวิเคราะห์อุปมา จำแนกกลวิธีการแปลอุปมา และศึกษาวิธีการแก้ปัญหาการแปลอุปมาที่พบในนวนิยายเรื่องนี้ ทฤษฎีและแนวทางการแปลที่นำมาศึกษาในสารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ คือ การวิเคราะห์ตัวบทของ คริสติอาเน นอร์ด (Text Analysis by Christiane Nord) แนวทางการแปลแบบตีความของ ฌ็อง เดอลิล (Interpretive Approach by Jean Delisle) แนวทางการแปลของ มิลเดรด แอล ลาร์สัน (Mildred L. Larson) และทฤษฎีการแปลวรรณกรรมของ วัลยา วิวัฒน์ศร ซึ่งใช้เป็นพื้นฐานในการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทต้นฉบับ กลวิธีการแปลโวหารภาพพจน์ แนวทางการทำงานแปลของผู้แปลและการแก้ปัญหาการแปล นอกจากนั้นผู้วิจัยยังศึกษาลักษณะของอุปมาเพื่อเป็นหลักเกณฑ์ในการคัดเลือกอุปมาที่จะนำมาศึกษา ทั้งยังศึกษาทฤษฎีเชิงภาษาศาสตร์เพื่อนำไปวิเคราะห์โครงสร้างทางภาษาของอุปมาในต้นฉบับ และอุปมาที่ได้รับการแปลแล้ว จากการศึกษาทฤษฎีและแนวทางการแปลสามารถสรุปได้ว่าการใข้ทฤษฎีและแนวทางการแปลเป็นเพียงส่วนหนึ่งในการทำงานแปล เนื่องจากการสัมภาษณ์ผู้แปลได้พบว่าวิธีการทำงานแปลชิ้นนี้ของผู้แปลเป็นการแปลแบบคำต่อคำเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ไม่เน้นการวิเคราะห์ตัวบทหรือตีความตัวบทเพื่อให้ทราบความหมายที่ลึกซึ้งโดยละเอียด ผู้แปลต้องการถ่ายทอดคำที่ผู้เขียนใช้ในต้นฉบับเพื่อรักษาวัจนลีลาของผู้เขียนไว้โดยไม่นำวัจนลีลาของผู้แปลไปใส่ในบทแปล เมื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์อุปมาที่ได้รับการแปลแล้ว ทำให้ทราบว่าการแปลอุปมาในนวนิยายเรื่องนี้ไม่ยาก เพราะภาษาที่ใช้ในต้นฉบับเป็นภาษาง่าย ไม่สลับซับซ้อน คำอุปมาเปรียบเทียบที่ผู้เขียนใช้เป็นส่วนใหญ่เป็นเรื่องที่ผู้อ่านทั่วไปสามารถเข้าใจได้แม้ผู้อ่านบางคนจะอยู่ในสังคมและวัฒนธรรมที่แตกต่างออกไป หากอุปมานั้นเป็นการเปรียบที่มีความหมายเฉพาะ ผู้เขียนมักจะมีคำอธิบายกำกับไว้อยู่แล้ว และการแปลอุปมาจากภาษาไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษสามารถทำได้โดยที่ยังสามารถรักษาความหมายการเปรียบเทียบตามต้นฉบับไว้ได้เพราะอุปมาในทั้งสองภาษามีโครงสร้างการเปรียบเทียบเหมือนกัน |
| Other Abstract: | This special research aims to study the translation approaches of similes from Thai into English in a Thai novel by Chart Korbjitti, Mad Dogs & Co, translated by Marcel Barang. Translation theories and approaches, linguistic theory, similes and translation approaches of similes were applied for the analysis of similes, different ways of translation of similes and solutions to problems of translation of similes in the novel. The translation theories and approaches employed in this research for a fundamental analysis of the original text, methods of simile translation, translation approaches of the translator and translation solutions, are founded on Text Analysis by Christiane Nord, Interpretive Approach by Jean Delisle, Translation Approach by Mildred L. Larson and Literary Translation Theory by Wanlaya Wiwatsorn. Moreover, criteria for simile selection and analysis of language structure are based on the study of simile and linguistic theory, respectively. The abovementioned theories and approaches are found to be parts of the translator’s translation. However, an interview with the translator reveals that he used the technique of word for word translation, he did not focus on text analysis and interpretation. He only intended to deliver the original text and style of the author into the translation. The result of the analysis demonstrates that the translation of similes in this novel is not difficult as the language the author uses is not complicated and easy to understand. The similes are fairly general, making it possible for readers from different culture to understand. For those similes which have specific meanings, the author usually provided explanations for them. The translation of similes from Thai into English can maintain their original meanings as the structure of similes and the indicators of similies in both languages are similar. |
