| dc.description.abstract | สารนิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มุ่งศึกษากลวิธีการแปลอุปมาจากไทยเป็นอังกฤษในนวนิยายเรื่อง The Brotherhood of Kaeng Khoi โดยปีเตอร์ มอนทาลบาโน ซึ่งแปลจากเรื่อง ลับแล, แก่งคอย ของอุทิศ เหมะมูล และศึกษาแนวทางการถ่ายทอดอุปมาในวรรณกรรมไทยเป็นภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อรักษาความหมายที่ถูกต้องตามเจตนาของ ผู้เขียนต้นฉบับ ด้วยภาษาแปลที่เป็นธรรมชาติ และรักษาสมมูลภาพของบทแปลให้ผู้อ่านฉบับแปลได้รับอรรถรส จากการอ่านในระดับที่เทียบเคียงได้กับผู้อ่านภาษาต้นฉบับ ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาทบทวนแนวคิดและทฤษฎีการใช้อุปมาในงานวรรณกรรม แนวคิดด้านการแปล และ สมมูลภาพในการแปลเพื่อกำหนดกรอบการวิจัยและใช้เป็นแนวทางในการวิเคราะห์ ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า ใน การทำให้บทแปลมีสมมูลภาพ ผู้แปลเลือกใช้กลวิธีการแปลอุปมาที่พบในต้นฉบับ 5 รูปแบบ ดัดแปลงจากแนวทางการแปลภาพพจน์ของปีเตอร์ นิวมาร์ค และแนวคิดเกี่ยวกับสมมูลภาพในการแปลของยูจีน ไนด้า เวอร์ เนอร์ โคลเลอร์ และโมนา เบเคอร์ ดังนี้ 1.) การแปลแบบตรงตัว คือ ผู้แปลถ่ายทอดเป็นภาษาปลายทางโดยใช้อุปมาที่มีตัวเปรียบเดียวกับภาษาต้นฉบับ 2.) การแปลแบบตรงตัวประกอบการตีความ คือ ผู้แปลใช้การเปรียบเชิงอุปมาแบบเดียวกับต้นฉบับ โดยที่บทแปลสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงการตีความของผู้แปลเพื่อสื่อทั้งความหมาย ทางตรงและความหมายโดยนัยของการเปรียบเชิงอุปมาที่พบ 3.) การแปลแบบตรงตัวประกอบการอธิบายความ คือ ผู้แปลใช้การเปรียบเชิงอุปมาแบบเดียวกับต้นฉบับ และให้คำอธิบายเพิ่มเติมเพื่อถ่ายทอดความหมายให้ผู้อ่านฉบับแปลเข้าใจสิ่งที่ผู้เขียนกล่าวถึงได้อย่างถูกต้องชัดเจน 4.) การแปลแบบตีความและถอดความหมาย คือ ผู้แปลไม่ใช้การเปรียบเชิงอุปมา แต่ใช้วิธีตีความสิ่งที่ผู้เขียนต้องการสื่อถึงและอธิบายเพิ่มเติมเพื่อถ่ายทอดความหมายให้ผู้อ่านฉบับแปลเข้าใจเนื้อหาได้ตรงกับเจตนาที่ผู้เขียนต้นฉบับต้องการสื่อถึง และ5.) การตัดทิ้งไม่แปล คือ ผู้แปลเลือกตัดถ้อยคำบางส่วนหรือทั้งหมดที่แสดงการเปรียบเทียบเชิงอุปมาในต้นฉบับ จากความแตกต่างทางโครงสร้างภาษาและวัฒนธรรมของภาษาต้นฉบับและภาษาแปล ทำให้ผู้แปลเลือกใช้กลวิธีการแปลที่แตกต่างกันในการแปลอุปมาแต่ละแห่งที่พบ ทั้งนี้ เพื่อรักษาสมมูลภาพในระดับคำ ระดับไวยากรณ์ ระดับความหมาย และระดับวัจนปฏิบัติ เพื่อทำให้ผู้อ่านภาษาฉบับแปลได้รับอรรถรสที่เทียบเคียงได้กับผู้อ่านภาษาต้นฉบับ | en_US |
| dc.description.abstractalternative | The objectives of this special research project are to study the methods used in the translation of similes from Thai to English by Peter Montalbano in the Thai novel The Brotherhood of Khaeng Khoi written by Utis Hemamool, and to note how the methods preserve accurate meaning of the source language (SL), maintain fluency in the target language (TL), and produce an equivalent effect on the readers of the translated text. In this research study, the researcher has made use of relevant theories on the nature of similes, as well as translation theories and approaches to textual equivalence as the paper's theoretical framework. The result of this research study suggests that, based on Peter Newmark's figurative translation techniques and Eugene Nida’s, Werner Koller’s, and Mona Baker’s perspectives on equivalence, the translator used five different methods to effectively translate Thai similes into English. They are: 1. Reproduce the same image in the TL; 2. Replace the image in the SL with a standard TL image that reflects both denotative and connotative meanings of the SL; 3. Use the same image combined with sense to transfer the accurate meaning of the SL; 4. Conversion of simile to sense; and 5. Deletion. It has come to the researcher’s attention that different language structures and cultural differences between the SL and TL also account for the change in translation methods applied to each of the simile found in this paper. The translator’s aim is to preserve literary flavor and produce grammatical equivalence, textual equivalence and pragmatic equivalence in the TL. | en_US |
